Beach

We spent a lovely day at the beach yesterday with our friends Sophie and Sebastian. They live in Paris but spend every summer in Manduria, a town famous for wine about 100km north of here.

The beach was pretty packed, as can only be expected for a Saturday in August. We were clever though and went for the quietest time of the day, from about 12-5pm, when all the locals are cooking, eating and then recovering from their enormous lunches.

We went to our favourite spot, which requires a bit of a walk but it is so worth it as there are always less people there than at other beautiful beaches. There are two sandy coves hidden in the cliffs, only for people in the know.

The water is crystal clear and there is nothing man-made as far as the eye can see, just blue sky, aromatic Mediterranean scrub and pine woods, crumbling cliffs, fine sand and of course the turquoise, sparkling water.

Mickey had a great day, he loves the beach and he also really loved hanging out with our friends and the other people at the seaside. While Darren and I would prefer a completely deserted, quiet beach I think Mickey would be more up for one of those classic Italian lidos, packed with oily bodies and line dancing. He is a very sociable child.

Luckily for him there are no shortage of those types of places round here but I’m afraid he will have to wait until he is old enough to drive there himself!
